I’m Back

Oh man what a new year I have had.  Started off busy with work and getting the home + kids back in order after a few long weekends.  Now its the middle of the Jan. and I have 2 very sick kids.

Ryan started this month off telling me that instead of being on call for 2 weeks = 14 days he was going to be on call 3 weeks = 21 days straight.  So we both kind of looked at each other and silently wondered what would come up.  Well last weekend the cold bug flew into the girls room and decided to take up residency.

Wait I need to back track.  Last Thur night Erika threw up and so on Friday the girls and I stayed home.  Both were better and OK on Sat.  Then Sat. night Emily started to cough a little and have a runny nose.  Well come Monday its a flow blown cold and by Wed we are at the Dr because her temp keeps jumping to 101.x - which is OK for a day or 2 but not that long.  To top it off her cough is horrible and she coughed so much it made her throw up.

Wed. I head to the Dr. with the kids in tow.  Keep in mind going to the Dr. with 2 toddlers isn’t fun when they are feeling good, when they don’t feel good its like pulling your nose hairs out.  The Dr. does an x-ray and nose swab of Emily and she ends up positive for RSV.  RSV is a really really bad cold that last for weeks.  Pretty much all of us have had it at some point in our lives just not tested for it.   At this time Erika is just showing mild cold symptoms.

On Wed I was able to take off 1/2 the day and get Ryan to take the other.  With the stipulation I needed to be home by 4pm because he goes on call.  My boss is out of the office all day and the other lady I work with wasn’t going to even go in because her kid was throwing up at home.  Her kid is 14 so we decided to split the day and I would close the doors at 3:30.  It worked out for me and her but who knows how many people stopped or called and really I don’t care.   I would like to mention that my boss told me earlier in the day it was OK to bring the girls to work if it came to that……..this comment upsets me beyond belief so I will move on.

Thur we still stayed home and I took the entire day off.  Emily was good to go with a minor cough and some crabby pants on but over all she was much much better.  Erika on the other hand took and dive for the worse.  She was very lethargic and pretty much slept her day away.  At about 5 she was running a temp of 103 and it took a while to get that down.  Once her temp was below the 100 make you could tell.  She jumped off the couch and chased the dogs around a little then asked for a sandwich.  That lasted 2 hrs and she was back to her laying on the couch.

Today they woke up just the opposite. Emily was feeling in the dumps and Erika was ready for the day (just a little slower then normal).  I left them in the trusted hands of Grandma Carol.  No major issues beyond getting the DVD player set for Shrek.

I should also mention that last night was the 1st night there wasn’t 4 of us in 1 bed since Sunday.  Erika was the only one who wiggled her way into bed with us.  Needless to say my right eye has had a little twitch and I can only hope its due to the lack of sleep.  Between bed hogs, crying and coughing I have had little sleep this week.
